On May 30th the pupils of the ZaHRada Elementary School in Tišnov visited our forest district Sýkoř as part of their open education.

The forest administrator Ing. Beran introduced the children to the importance of forest management and the need to improve the relationship between humans, forests, and nature in general. During the day, the children learned about the challenges of today’s forest especially in regard to climate change and saw manual and mechanized harvesting of trees that are infested with bark beetle. The brave ones even had the opportunity to try out large forestry equipment in real life. The administrator explained to the pupils how a forest´s natural development works and how foresters intervene to grow stable and more resilient forests.

Furthermore, he explained the importance of game management in the creation of such forests. The children learned the responsibilities of a good hunter, so that game and the forest live in a balanced symbiosis. The learning was made a lot easier by the delicious homemade game sausages the children enjoyed, while sitting around a bonfire.
